Standing Committees
These committees are permanently established and may be composed of active voting representatives of the GSA and their alternatives.
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee shall act on behalf of the Graduate Student Assembly on crucial time-sensitive matters when GSA is not in session after adjournment of the last regular meeting in the spring session. It shall also coordinate the work of, and provide guidance to, graduate student members of university governance committees and GSA committees. The President shall chair, and the Administrative Director shall act as Secretary.
Communications Committee
The Communications Committee shall facilitate easy, open, and honest external and internal communications for the GSA by developing procedures for using existing communications tools and recommending new tools to facilitate communications within GSA and its committees. The Communications Director shall chair the committee.
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee shall help the Financial Director build and propose a summer budget. The committee shall also solicit and hear proposed allocations to student organizations, then present suggested allocations to the GSA. The Financial Director will chair the committee.
Legislative Committee
The Legislative Committee shall review the actions of the United States Congress, Texas State Legislature, Austin City Council, and other governmental bodies that affect UT Austin graduate students. The committee shall recommend a course of action to GSA for GSA and its members to take. The Internal Policy Director will chair the committee.
Rules and Administration Committee
The Rules and Administrative Committee shall assist the administrative director in developing, recommending, and interpreting GSA rules embodied in the governing documents. The committee shall review GSA Rules to ensure they are consistent with United States federal law, Texas State law, and The University of Texas at Austin policies and procedures. The committee shall develop and recommend accounting procedures for membership that balance the need for public information about members with respect for their privacy. The committee shall assist the President and Vice President in recruiting graduate students to fill vacant positions in the GSA. The Administrative Director chairs the committee.
Graduate Student Affairs Committee
The Graduate Student Affairs Committee shall be responsible for all issues that pertain to the quality of life of graduate students. The committee shall review issues and other matters of concern to specific groups of students within GSA authority, including but not limited to master's students, PhD students, professional degree students, graduate student academic employees, and international students. The Student Affairs Director chairs the committee.
Graduate Academic Affairs Committee
The Graduate Academic Affairs Committee is responsible for all issues pertaining to graduate student educational policies. The committee shall review academic issues and other matters of concern to specific groups of graduate students, including but not limited to master's students, PhD students, professional degree students, graduate student academic employees, and international students. The committee shall also be responsible for activities to further the academic enrichment and social integration of graduate students, including colloquia, symposia, ceremonies, and other programs of interest to graduate students. The Academic Affairs Director shall chair this committee.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee shall maintain the list of active voting representatives and their alternates. The committee shall also encourage and educate graduate students on how to become new GSA members. The committee shall also oversee recommending the annual appointment process. The Membership Director shall chair this committee.
University-Wide Committee Appointments
