Lena Mose-Vargas

Lena (they/she) is a third-year PhD student in the Department of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies. They received their B.A. at the University of Kansas in American Studies and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Her research rethinks the geography of scholarship surrounding Latinos in the Midwest through a focus on Chicana activism in the 1970s. Outside of school, Lena enjoys making jewelry, watching reality TV, and going to concerts.

Hector Leon

Hector (he/him) is a second year PhD student of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the Pharmacology and Toxicology Division, College of Pharmacy. Hector attended Arizona State University, where he completed dual bachelor degrees in Neuroscience and Psychology. He works in the Kantarci Lab studying neuron-glial cell interactions. In his free time, he enjoys reading, running, and watching movies.

Abbey Johnson

Abbey is a third-year pharmacy student originally from Kansas, where she completed her Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences at Kansas State University. She couples her PharmD candidacy with research at the UT Marine Science Institute, studying the effects of anti-diabetic drugs on fish. Outside of school, Abbey enjoys hiking, weight lifting, watching movies, and playing board games.

Molly Hoyer

Molly is a second-year PhD student in French Studies, with research interests in the environmental humanities and postcolonial studies. After graduating from Wellesley College with a degree in Comparative Literature in 2018, she spent six years working at a boarding school in her home state of New Jersey before embarking on her latest adventure of graduate school. When she's not in class or reading, you can find her in a hot yoga studio, playing D&D, or just being chronically online!

RJ is a second-year MPAff candidate at the LBJ School of Public Affairs focusing on state and local finance with special interests in municipal capital markets and economic development. He got his bachelor’s degree in political science at Texas State University before working for the Texas Legislature during the 88th Regular Session. In his free time, RJ likes to drink black coffee, play tennis, listen to musical theater soundtracks, and complete NYT Crosswords with his amazing girlfriend.

Kelton Bloxham

Kelton (he/him) is a master’s student in Higher Education Leadership and Policy at The University of Texas at Austin. He currently serves as a Graduate Research Assistant at the National Deaf Center on Postsecondary Outcomes, where his work focuses on advancing equity and access for deaf and disabled students across higher education. Kelton brings a rich background in student leadership, having served as Student Body President at Maryville College, and now contributes to campus governance at UT through roles on the Presidential Advisory Committee and the ADA Accessibility Committee.
With a foundation in American Sign Language, Deaf Studies, and Community Psychology, Kelton’s research bridges policy and practice to help institutions build inclusive environments, particularly for students historically excluded from full participation in campus life. His human-first approach to advocacy is deeply rooted in personal experience—shaped by growing up alongside his disabled grandmother and being part of the LGBTQ+, LDS, rural Southern, and disability communities. He is passionate about transforming higher education systems through inclusive policy development, student-centered programs, and culturally responsive leadership.

Alfonso Ayala

Alfonso is a third-year PhD student in the Department of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies. His research is centered on queer Latino sobriety, desire, and sexuality. He is additionally interested in understanding how communities of belonging and care are created among queer Latinos living in recovery. Outside of school, Alfonso enjoys karaoke, dancing, weight lifting, watching movies, and spending time with his family in San Antonio.

Dana Sheinhaus

Dana (she/her) is a fourth-year PhD student in the pharm/tox division in the College of Pharmacy, where she studies how early-life exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals affects fertility outcomes. She is originally from North Carolina, and obtained her B.S. in Microbiology from NC State University (go pack!). Outside of the lab, Dana enjoys reading, baking, and ice skating.
